Appointment of the Interim Dean of the College

To the Dartmouth community,

In April I announced that Dean Charlotte Johnson will step down as Dean of the College at the end of July in order to serve as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Scripps College in Claremont, California.

I am pleased to share that Inge-Lise Ameer, Senior Associate Dean of the College, will serve as Interim Dean of the College beginning August 1 and will report to Provost Carolyn Dever. Provost Dever will lead the search for the next Dean of the College.

Dean Ameer currently leads the Student Academic Support Services and Campus Life units of the Dean of the College division. As a key member of the Dean's senior management team she has supervised the majority of student affairs direct-service functions and brings more than twenty years of experience in higher education to this position. At Dartmouth she has initiated and guided significant advancements in student services, including the planning and opening of the Ross Advising Suite in the library, resulting in a 30% increase in student utilization of services offered by the undergraduate deans. She has also advanced campus services and access for students and other community members with disabilities, worked with faculty to create and implement the 360 Advising pilot program for first and second year students, and ensured the continuation and expansion of the First Year Student Enrichment Program for first-generation students.

I would like to welcome Inge-Lise to this role and thank her for her enthusiasm in taking on the many responsibilities and opportunities of this important office. I would also like to thank the members of the staff of the Dean of the College area for their professionalism and support during this transition. I have every confidence in the Dean of the College division as together we seek to provide an extraordinary educational experience for our students.
