Statement on Tenure

The decision to grant tenure is the most critical personnel decision made by the College, involving a long-term commitment that has the potential to last for decades. It is, therefore, essential that the process is thoughtful and deeply rigorous.

The strength of the tenure decision process lies in a system of layered review that incorporates multiple levels of internal and external evaluation assuring a thoroughly considered outcome.

Consistent with practices at peer educational institutions, three criteria are considered when making tenure decisions: excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service to the community.

The guidelines used for tenure decisions and the appeal process can be found starting on page 33 of the faculty handbook.
