Honoring Our Military Veterans

President Hanlon invites the Dartmouth community to honor our nation's military veterans on Veterans Day.

To the Dartmouth community,

As we approach Veterans Day, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the many veterans in the Dartmouth community who have made tremendous personal sacrifices to protect our way of life.

A great slate of virtual programming has been planned for Wednesday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. I sincerely hope you will take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about our veterans' military experiences, reflect on their service and sacrifice, and thank them for the leadership they've shown in protecting our nation and the freedoms we all enjoy.

Activities include a Veterans Day storytelling event at which undergraduate veterans will share their journeys from serving their country to studying at Dartmouth; a panel with Dartmouth veterans in which they'll discuss their varied experiences and how these experiences enhance our classrooms and community; and a conversation with Professor Jason Lyall and two recent Dartmouth graduates about diversity and inclusivity in the military.

In addition, Dartmouth employee and marine veteran Jason Mosel will be running a 100-mile marathon around campus to celebrate Veterans Day, the Marine Birthday, and the launch of a new Employee Resource Network for veterans, and is inviting members of the Dartmouth community to join him for portions of his socially-distanced run.

The full schedule of events, including registration information, is available at https://www.dartmouth.edu/veterans/events/.

We look forward to your participation in this community celebration of our military, and thank the veterans among you for your truly extraordinary service.

Warm regards,

Philip J. Hanlon '77
