Each Dartmouth President's tenure is represented in a custom needlepoint seat cushion that adorns a chair used in the dining room at the President's House. Designs are commissioned and completed upon each president's retirement.
Check out this slide show in the March/April 2016 issue of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine to see the collection.
According to the magazine, "the cushions originated in 1958, thanks to an idea from College designer John Scotford '38, needlework by descendants of John Sloan Dickey '29, among others, and chairs crafted in the student woodworking shop."
