A Message from President-Elect Sian Leah Beilock

Dear members of the Dartmouth community,

I am proud, grateful, and brimming with optimism today as I write to you as Dartmouth's president-elect.

It is, of course, an immense honor to join one of the nation's most storied institutions of higher education. I am even more deeply moved by what lies ahead. As a scholar, I recognize the excellence of the learning, teaching, scholarship, creativity, and research that goes on at Dartmouth. As a leader in higher education and as a citizen, I am equally impressed with a spirit and tradition that propels members of this community to use knowledge born here to address society's most pressing challenges and most promising opportunities.

That rare combination of strengths does not mean the work we do together will always be easy. But it is clear to me that this tight-knit learning community, together with world-class research and scholarship, is an enormously powerful vehicle for the creation of outstanding ideas with real impact. To support that, I look forward to meeting with you and hearing about your work, what inspires you, and what you value most about Dartmouth.

I am grateful to the Board of Trustees for their confidence and to all those who have welcomed me so warmly during the search process and shared their profound dedication to Dartmouth. I also want to thank President Phil Hanlon for his continuing leadership and for guiding a transition that will allow Dartmouth to continue building momentum while affording me the opportunity to spend these coming months listening and learning.

Finally, with a sense of great responsibility and hope, I ask all of you to work with me, starting now and for many years to come, in building on Dartmouth's excellence, deepening the mutual support of this extraordinary community, and continuing to take that leadership out into the world.

With appreciation,

Sian Leah Beilock
