An evening of traditional and contemporary Native American storytelling.
Communities of culture have long maintained cohesion and connection through oral tradition. These stories guide people in their relationships to each other and to the world they live in. In this interdisciplinary performance, culture bearer J Miko Thomas (Chickasaw), whose name as a drag performer is Landa Lakes, draws upon the stories of the so-called 'Five Civilized Tribes' — the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek (Muscogee) and Seminole tribes — that were forcefully displaced from their homelands over the span of 70 years.
