"While the events of this story are fictional…These. People. Existed."

Jeymes Samuel's Black cowboy fantasy is a stylized, violent spectacle that redefines the prominence of African Americans in the wild west. To that end, he fills the screen with characters whose eccentricity, coolness and layered psychology nearly render the plot superfluous. Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba play real-life gang leaders Nat Love and Rufus Buck;  Zazie Beetz (Stagecoach Mary) and Regina King are their the right-hands; LaKeith Stanfield is Cherokee Bill and Danielle Deadwyler is the gender-fluid Cuffee, a quick-drawing bodyguard whose slender frame proves deceptive in its brutal ability.
