Shakespeare's thriller-prototype is stripped to its rawest psychological dimensions in this portrait of a powerful married couple who plunge into a last-chance crime with devastating consequences. Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand are a late middle-aged Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. They are older, warier, more urgently striving against a merciless clock as they seize together upon a final opportunity for power. Then, they unleash carnage.
