A dance journey through the African American experience by the riveting choreographer.
Camille Brown is back at the Hop having made history as the first Black director of a Metropolitan Opera mainstage production last fall, choreographing and co-directing Fire Shut Up in My Bones. And she is also the first Black woman in almost 65 years to direct and choreograph a Broadway show, the seven-time Tony-nominated with for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow in enuf.
Powerful themes and explosive choreography lie at the heart of Brown's trilogy on race, culture and identity comprised of Mr. TOL E. RAncE (2012), BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play (2015) and ink (2018). The evening's program features highlights from the three mesmerizing works which use modern, hip hop, African, ballet and tap dance styles to tell stories that connect history with contemporary culture.
