Trade Policy Today: A PEP Debate

Doug Irwin (Economics) and Scott Lincicome (Cato Institute) address current controversies in American trade policy.

Tuesday, May 2, 2023
4:30pm – 5:30pm
Room 001, Rockefeller Center
Intended Audience(s): Public
Categories:

Have free trade policies failed US workers and the middle class, deindustrialized the country, and jeopardized climate objectives? Should we put America first with government investment to ensure economic resilience and enhance national security? Or will those policies be wasteful and unnecessary, since more open trade will strengthen the economy? These issues are at the forefront of the US policy debate as the Biden administration rejects trade agreements in favor of new domestic investment in green energy and semiconductors. Debating these issues will be Douglas Irwin, an economics professor at Dartmouth, and Scott Lincicome, director of trade policy studies at the Cato Institute in Washington.

This debate is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Political Economy Project, the Dickey Center for International Understanding, and the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy.

Tuesday May 2 at 4:30 in Rocky 1.
