Steven Pincus is the Thomas E. Donnelly Professor of British History and the College at the University of Chicago. He is a historian of Britain and its Empire as well as comparative histories of revolution and state formation. He is the author of several books, including The Heart of the Declaration: The Founders’ Case for Activist Government and 1688:The First Modern Revolution. His next book is a global history of the British Empire between roughly 1650 - 1784, and draws upon a wide range of European, North American, and West Indian archives.
