Description

This presentation will:

1) Tell the story of high risk HPV in oropharyngeal (tonsil and base of tongue) squamous cell carcinoma patients.

2) Discuss morphologic features that are prognostic in these patients.

3) Explain how we have developed computerized image analysis classifiers for prognosis in HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients and how to validate them for clinical practice.

 

Bio

Dr. James (Jim) Lewis Jr. is a head and neck surgical pathologist, Professor, and Chief of Head and Neck and Endocrine Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His major academic focus is on HPV in head and neck carcinomas, and in particular on using computerized image analysis from digitized slides for prognosis and prediction.  He is co-chair of the College of American Pathologist’s Expert Panel on HPV Testing in Head and Neck Carcinomas, an Editor for the 2021 World Health Organization 5th Edition blue book on classification of head and neck tumors, and current President of the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology.
