Chantel Ackerman's psychodrama of the mundane finds Delphine Seyrig as the eponymous character in her apartment plodding ritualistically through the daily tasks of each day—cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, tending to her teenage son, and receiving the occasional visit from one of the men who pay her for sex. Over three clearly delineated days, cracks appear in Dielman's façade of control, leading to a macabre and startling climax. Jeanne Dielman is an exercise in duration and the gaze.
