Three Bay Area urbanites navigate relationships, careers and general mid-twenties' malaise, while being Asian in America.
Three Bay Area urbanites navigate relationships, careers and general mid-twenties' malaise, while being Asian in America.
Cinephile Ben (Justin H. Min) just can't get out of his own way. Pretentious, ornery and generally dismissive of others' ambitions, he's ripe for a belated coming of age. As the arthouse theater where he works shutters its business, Ben gets his chance to grow when his ex-girlfriend declares she's moving from the Bay to New York. But, rather than taking the reins of his own life, he fights tooth and nail for what's passing him by and moving on, without a hint of self-awareness. Adapted by the author from the graphic novel of the same name, Shortcomings is part rom-com, part character study and part portrait of identity in the 2020s. Quippy and honest, it's a slick, humorous look at personal failings when we're our own worst enemy.
