Convoluted as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has gotten, Tom Holland's latest opus spins two decades and three iterations of the Spidey brand into a satisfying meta-adventure. There's just something endearing about superpowers in the hands of a gawky teen (Holland), who has to simultaneously worry about saving the world and whether his aunt will be mad if he leaves the class trip without permission.

With Spider-Man's identity now revealed, our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high-flying world of superherodom. When Peter asks for help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. D: John Watts, US, 2021
