Salmon P. Chase (Class of 1826)—Treasury secretary and Chief Justice--was an advocate of black rights and a key figure in ending U.S. slavery.
Walter Stahr (Hoover Institution) will discuss his new biography of Chase with a special focus on Dartmouth. The WSJ has called Stahr’s biography "eloquently written, impeccably researched and intensely moving.” April 15 at 4:30pm, Moore B02 (NOT ROCKY 3). The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Political Economy Project.
