‌Tamson Pietsch is associate professor in social and political sciences and director of the Australian Centre for Public History at the University of Technology Sydney. In her book The Floating University: Experience, Empire, and the Politics of Knowledge, she examines a bold educational experiment that was also an exercise in imperial power—an NYU professor's 1926 voyage around the world with 500 American college students. She writes that the effort challenged academic authority by offering direct experience as a legitimate educational alternative.

Pietsch will be interviewed by Eve Duffy, associate vice provost for global affairs at Duke University.

This is the seventh event of the Academic Innovation for the Public Good 2023 book conversation series, co-organized by Stanford Digital Education and Trinity College and supported by DCAL.
